You are invited to attend our workshop unpacking the newly concluded Main Agreement. This year’s groundbreaking wage negotiations were concluded in record breaking time, and signed on 13 May 2024!

The workshop includes the new method of applying the wage increases, the gazettal and extension process, plus the exemption process for wages and end of year leave enhancement pay (bonus).

This training covers the industry collective bargaining structure and processes, the new wage increases and the new minimum rates of pay, who the agreement applies to, and some key conditions of employment for employees covered by the Main Agreement, including:

  • # The bargaining environment
  • # The road map to settlement i.e., the Dialogue Workshop, the Process Agreement and the Pre-Bargaining Conference
  • # The wage increases and the new wage rates
  • # The wage and leave bonus exemption procedure, including Phase-In exemptions
  • # The no-strike clause and protection against plant level bargaining
  • # Housing and Industrial Policy
  • # Full and Final Settlement

In addition, other key conditions of the Main Agreement will also be covered, such as:

  • # Load shedding, power outages and other unforeseen contingencies and emergencies – utilising section 7 (Short-time) to your advantage,
  • # Payment for overtime, Public Holidays, Sunday pay and shift allowances, including flexible working time arrangements,
  • # Payment of leave and leave enhancement pay, the annual shut-down, and the calculation of shifts thereof,
  • # Family responsibility leave / Paternal and maternity and paternity leave, ,
  • # Managing sick leave and sick notes
  • # Standby and call-out allowances,
  • # Sick Pay Fund benefits,
  • # Injury on duty provisions.

The Presenter

Michael Lavender is SEIFA’s Industrial Relations Manager. He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree majoring in Industrial Psychology and Economics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, formerly the University of Natal. He has 33 years of knowledge and experience in labour law and industrial relations in the metals and engineering industry.
