The health and safety representative plays an important role in any company’s health and safety structure and strategy. The health and safety representatives represent the employee’s interests at the quarterly health and safety meetings and together with management, formulate and drive health and safety within the company.
Health and safety representatives are nominated by fellow employees in the workplace and not management and then need to be sent on training in-order to ensure that they understand their important function as laid down in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 93. The act requires all employers who have more than 20 employees to nominate a health and safety representative who must be sent for training. One health and safety representative of every 50 employees must be trained and appointed.

- Duties and functions of health and safety representatives; and
- Addressing health and safety issues, the OHS committee, inspections, incident Investigation, hazard identification risk assessment.
Certificates are issued after successful completion of a theoretical competency assessment.
