South Africa has been a member of BRICS since 2010 and the BRICS Business
Council was formed when the country hosted the BRICS Summit in Durban in March
2013. Since then, various BRICS Business Council Working Groups have been
formed, with one of them being the Manufacturing Working Group (MWG).
The MWG seeks not only to facilitate trade in manufacturing among the five
countries, but also to encourage co-operation on projects where there is potential for
collaboration or complementarity. To date, the MWG has made considerable strides,
but more work still needs to be done.
